2014 Rolls Royce Ghost transmission feels rough at low speeds – any specialist recommendations?

I've owned my Ghost for about three years and it's been mostly flawless until recently. Over the past few months I've noticed the 8 speed transmission feeling a bit jerky when I'm maneuvering at parking lot speeds or crawling in traffic. It's subtle but it's there, and I know these ZF units are supposed to be buttery smooth. I took it to the dealer in Dubai and they quoted me 7,500 dirhams just to do a software update and fluid change, but they couldn't guarantee it would fix the issue. They mentioned it might need a valve body rebuild or even a full transmission replacement which would be astronomical. I started asking around in the local Rolls owner group and someone mentioned a rolls royce gearbox workshop sharjah that apparently specializes in these high end ZF transmissions and charges a fraction of what the dealer asks. Has anyone here actually used a specialist in Sharjah for Rolls Royce transmission work? I'm nervous about taking such a car to a random shop but I also don't want to pay dealer prices if there's a reliable alternative. The car has 95,000 kilometers which isn't crazy high, so I'm hoping it's just a worn mechatronic sleeve or a fluid issue rather than something major. Would love to hear from anyone who's had transmission work done on a Rolls or even a Bentley in the UAE. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Jerkiness at parking lot speeds on a Ghost ZF 8 speed is almost always a mechatronic sleeve or fluid pressure issue. At 95k kilometers that transmission should have plenty of life left with the right diagnosis.

Dealer quoting 7,500 for a software update and fluid change without guaranteeing it fixes the issue is not a diagnosis, it is an expensive guess. A proper specialist will identify the exact fault before charging anything significant.

The ZF 8 speed in a Ghost is mechanically shared with BMW and Bentley platforms. Any specialist with deep ZF experience can work on it confidently without Rolls specific training on the gearbox itself.

Subtle jerkiness in slow traffic on a car that was previously buttery smooth is exactly the kind of early symptom worth catching before it develops into something more serious. Good instinct not to ignore it.

Nervousness about taking a Ghost to an independent is understandable but the right Sharjah specialist will have handled ZF transmissions from cars at this price point before. Asking specifically about their experience with these units will tell you everything you need to know before handing over the keys.
